Nikita-Kruschev

Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev (1894-1971) was the leader of the Soviet Union after the death of Joseph Stalin. I'm told by a Russian friend of mine that the stark contrast in the sculpture is meant to represent the contrasts in Khrushchev's personality.

This memorial to Khruschev was created by the sculptor Ernst Neizvestny. It is ironic that Khruschev chastised Neizvestny's work as degenerate art. Below is the lettering that is positioned at the foot of the memorial.
